First Crossing

I got the honor of shooting the album cover photo for my friend Tom Henry's new CD. This guy is an amazing guitar player and I jumped at the opportunity to work with him on this (although, I use the term "jumped" loosely - it took us a while to get our schedules aligned so that we could actually do it). But once we did, we met at his place where he has a beautiful pond in the front yard, with a little dock and rowboat... what a perfect setting for an album called "First Crossing".
Shot in nearly direct sunlight (above and right), there were a few wispy clouds, but the light was rather harsh with a couple of speedlights side by side on full power just out of view on the left.

Guest Photo Day

Every once in a while it's fun to have a guest photographer on the blog, and today it's my good friend Ian Byington of San Juan Update fame. It was a busy busy day for me with work and then a Rumor Mill gig, so I didn't get any photos shot. And besides, I'm pretty vain and it's fun to put up pictures of myself from time to time. This is my band The Tease rockin it up - Steve Cutting on bass (with the baseball cap) Thomas Sandstrom on lead guitar (standing on a chair); me on rhythm guitar (with the shorts and a headband) Tim Lance on lead vocals, and lead cord coiler upper (right behind me), and Conrad on drums (but he's out of the frame to the left).

The Set Up

I shot quite a few photos today and couldn't narrow it down to just one, so here are 599 of them, one right after another. Unless you have decent sounding computer speakers, you might want to plug in some headphones. This is my band setting up for an outdoor gig yesterday at the Port of Friday Harbor. Oh and another thing - Either click the YouTube link or the Full Screen button  on the bottom of the image above so you can see it larger than that puny little preview window.

Fender Amp

My guitar amp. This may explain why that truck fender jumped out at me the other day.

Gig Night

We have a lot of gigs coming up. We'll be pretty busy this Summer. There might be quite a few more guitar-themed photos on this blog because of it. Tonight we were at the Rumor Mill. Next week, we're at Herb's.

Grunge

I was reviewing my "Garden Shed" photo from a few days ago, and along with the words choppy and sharp-edged (in its description), the word "Grunge" popped into my head. So I thought for today's photo I'd try to shoot some Grunge. Think Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc...

Gig Night

Another gig tonight so not a whole lot of time for shooting photos. But I did get a quick shot of our stage before the show. We played at the Rumor Mill tonight. And after a bit of processing in Photoshop, here's my photo for the day.

Are You Experienced?

Tonight was a great show at the Community Theater - Jimi Hendrix Tribute featuring Carl Blake on guitar, his son Hunter Blake on bass and Brad Dolson on drums. Plus we were treated to a special guest appearance by Steve Fisher of Heart fame. But Carl totally stole the show and it was difficult to choose a winner from all the photos I shot, so here's some three-fer madness for you.  >>Edit<< Oh alright, I know you want more... here's an encore of 2 more shots. (sorry Brad, your cymbals were in the way and I didn't get any decent shots of you)
