Mirror Calm

Wow it's been almost a year since I've posted on here. Been pretty busy with the San Juan Update I guess. Anyway, I thought I'd put something up. This is Little Sucia Island, as viewed from Fox Cove on Sucia Island. I woke up on the boat and all bleary eyed before coffee I went up on deck and shot a bunch of photos of the glass calm water. What a gorgeous morning!

A little while later as I was paddling my kayak around Little Sucia, cutting through that beautiful blue liquid, I was shouting in my head: "First tracks! I'm making first tracks!"

You probably had to be there, or be a skier to get it. But what a great morning it was. Mirror-calm water like this is my favorite.

Patio Furniture Through Broken Glass

We came home from a walk to town yesterday to find our back door window shattered. It's still in the door and it looks pretty cool but it probably won't last. All it's gonna take is a good wind gust or some unfortunate bird to fly into to it and it's going to be all over the patio. But for now it's fun to look at until we get it replaced.

Flower Bee

I was asked to lead a photowalk for the National Park's Bloom Week festival on Saturday, so off we went in search of wildflowers around American Camp. Just as I was shooting this one a bee came along and landed on it. Apparently, he wanted to be in the photo too.

Photo club first outing

There's a new photo club forming on the island. Today was our 2nd meet (but the first one where we actually went out shooting photos). We met at Lime Kiln (Whale Watch) Park and walked around shooting whatever caught our fancy. This is my favorite from my batch of shots today.

Joanie's Deck

We went out to my boss's place in the valley to return a Bar-B-Que and give her a recipe and ended up going out to her garden where she dug up fresh carrots, purple potatoes, huge beets and some garlic and onions. Then she took us over to her flower garden where she clipped some beautiful dahlias

Fisherman Bay

Here's a view of the dock in Fisherman Bay on Lopez at The Islander where we went for dinner last night. This is were we parked the skiff before walking up the dock for a great meal.

Tail Lights

Something caught my eye about all these cars lined up in the parking lot. Was it the tail lights? Was it the color? Was it the perspective? I'm not sure but it's my photo for today....

Gazebo at Roche Harbor

Roche Harbor Resort's restaurant and bar with the gazebo. This is where my band is playing Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week. And along with 2 nights at Herb's last weekend, the Rumor Mill next weekend and the Pig War Picnic on the Fourth, we've had a busy schedule (contributing to my lack of daily photos - I'm hoping to play catch-up soon) and rockin' good times!

Colored Asphalt

Well that project that I've been working on just got a whole lot closer to launch today. But it's still not quite there, so for now here's this shot. I noticed this on the parking lot as I walked up to my work truck today and had to get a shot of it. Can you tell what it is?

Rainy Windshield

I went down to the waterfront after dinner hoping to shoot some of the mists I saw in the trees out the back window - I really thought it was foggy out, but when I got down there it was starting to rain. And, no fog. So I shot some humdrum photos out the driver's window and the passenger window, and then I shot this one of the droplets on the windshield. It looked better than the others (especially if you click on it) so after some P/S, here it is.

Shannon Poses

I said "Hold it right there.... actually, back up a bit" and whipped out my camera and Shannon flashed me a little pose under the natural frame of this overgrown arbor. I just wish the sign wasn't back there behind her, but I don't think the owners would have appreciated me taking it down...

Fender Fender

Do you notice anything about this truck? It jumped right out at me so I had to take a picture. (but then I play a Fender Strat so I would notice such a thing).

Nursery

We swung by Christianson's Nursery outside La Conner on our way home from Seattle today and I shot this photo in one of the buildings. If you can really call it a building - no roof or walls.

Roast Beef

This is one of the photos I referred to in yesterday's post, and I'm choosing it today not so much for photographic value, but rather to ask a question. Can someone tell me what's up with the bright iridescent colors on roast beef? I've seen it on sliced ham lunch meat as well. I'm guessing it's not natural (but I'm no doctor). Is that chemicals? Is it growth hormones they give the cows? Or is it for flavor? (sure was a delicious sandwich....)

Outtake

Out-takes, bloopers, mistakes, ah-shoots, um-whoops... you get the idea... if it was film, this would be on the cutting room floor. Luckily, it ended up in my photostream and I took a 2nd look at it. In some pretty tough company of a chicken at the veterinarian, a funny bumper sticker, and the colorful chemicals on my sliced roast beef sandwich today, this one won the honor for today's daily photo.
