May 31st - The Way I See It...

This is my view of things when I'm playing the guitar. Eric picked our theme this week, "Human Form" and he said we could do the whole body or just part of it. I like hands, so I thought I'd show something that only human hands can do.
One strobe on 1/2 power through DIY Grid. Shot with my Tokina 12-24 wide angle zoom at 16mm.

May 30th - Symbiosis

Walking the dog today down by the port docks, I came across some Poppies and Lavender (I think), and the whole place was abuzz with pollen gathering activity. I tried getting some shots but Chester kept wanting my attention so I went back later by myself. I shot about 140 frames and easily narrowed them down to about 20 (man those bees are busy and difficult to shoot!) I finally picked this one out of the 20. Unfortunately, there are no poppies here, but it's the best Bee photo of the lot.

May 29th - Roy G. Biv

This is a re-shoot of the white rainbow shot from day before yesterday. This time, I shot during the day in full sunlight and it's a bit more colorful. I shot this on white paper in the back yard in direct sunlight, but I put a box out camera-right to cast a shadow to give the rainbow some contrast. White paper in direct sun was too bright.

May 28th - The Black Keys

A piano has, let's see, 3 plus 2 is five, times um how many octaves.. well let's just say a LOT of black keys. But there are only 2 black keys here....

May 27th - White Rainbow

This is a little glass thing I brought back from a business trip to China. It works like a prism when the sun shines on it. But in this shot it's being lit with my strobe and there's not really any color there to speak of. I'll do this again sometime with sunlight and see if we can squeeze any color out of it.

May 26th - A Room With a 360 View

To answer Alan's question from the other night, this is what the thing in "More Toys" can do. Be sure to click on the image above to see it in all of it's technological splendor. I have a lot of learning and tweaking to do - this is only about the 3rd time I've done this and it's rather cumbersome to work with.

May 25th - Closing Time

Shannon and I went out tonight after I got off work from the other one of my 2 part time jobs, and we got to witness closing time at the bar. This is something neither she nor I have seen in a long, long time. So we were joking amongst the 2 of us how we "closed the bar". This was funny because most people close a bar at 2 or 2:30 AM. We closed this one at 11:30. That's life in a sleepy, quaint little seaside village.

May 24th - More Toys

A good friend gave this to me on loan to see if I can make some decent images with it. If I can, I just might buy it from him. We'll see how it goes, and I'll post some samples here for sure when I get something worthy of it.

May 23rd - No More Excuses

May is National Bike Month and I figured it was about time to shoot something in honor of that. Because of that, Bicycle(s) is our theme for this week. Shannon's new bike trailer just arrived and we put it together this weekend and you're seeing it's maiden voyage here. Now we have no more excuses to drive to the store for groceries! (and this thing cost less than most people's monthly car payment!)

May 22nd - Snow Train

This almost looks like a train shot on an overcast snowy winter day. But it's just one of my model trains that I've had boxed up for years and years, and shot on my white table. I'm thinking it's about time I clear some space in my office, so I might do a big Ebay project and see if I can get a little cash for all this model train stuff.

May 21st - These Boots Are Made For Walkin'

This is quite possibly the most comfortable footwear I've ever owned. Hightops. Lightweight hikers. I think the odometer has rolled over once already. I wear them on my commute. I wear them at work. I wear them running errands. I wore them all over Switzerland and the Canyonlands and Stanley Park and Oahu (well, when I wasn't wearing flip-flops). I'm outta time today and I saw someone's nice shot of shoes a few days ago so I thought I'd try a close up.

May 20th - Cell Phone Take II

Still having all the stuff out from last night's shot of my D50, I decided to go ahead and re-shoot this shot of my cell phone but try to get the backlit numbers and the screen to show up this time. Eric was right, the longer exposure did it; thanks bro! I also raised the camera angle to avoid seeing the edge of the glass. Other than that, same setup as last time

May 19th - My D50

This is the camera that I've shot almost all of my 365's with so far this year. My Nikon D50 - I love this camera. It's shot here with my NEW Nikon D200! I'm lovin' this new D200 so far also. Lots of new features, lots to learn, lots and lots of pixels!
Strobe thru umbrella camera right. Strobe with blue gel coloring the wall behind subject. Strobe with red gel coloring the ceiling for reflection in lens.

May 16th - Reached the Beach

Shannon, Courtney and I rode 61.4 miles today. We did the "Reach the Beach" ride for the American Lung Association. We had hoped to do the whole 100 miles, but apparently didn't train well enough. But we made it to the beach! This is Haystack Rock at Pacific City, Oregon.

May 15th - Dandelion Seeds

Once again with the good ol' dandelion. I saw a photo similar to this recently on someone's 365 blog (sorry I don't remember whose - there have been alot of dandelions on 365's recently). Anyhow, I thought it would be fun to do one myself. I tried catching the individual seeds floating away on the breeze, but I'm gonna need more patience for that one.

May 14th - Spring Street Landing

Went down to the ferry to meet my brother and his friend as they passed through on their way to Sucia Island for the weekend. (no - the ferry doesn't go to Sucia. They were here to change boats; from the ferry to our folks' boat) The last light of the day was gorgeous on the ferry and Spring Street Landing

May 9th - Highlighters

Extreme Color

Our theme this last week was "Extreme Color" and these were the most colorful things I could find on short notice (12-hour work day for me today with only a couple hours in the middle for a break, dinner, 2 photos and my long, long commute from the first job to the 2nd job.) so here they are...

Time to Play Catch-Up

OK, well so much for a photo every day without fail. As many of you probably are aware, I've missed the last several days. This has been due some stuff going on at home. But I'm back now and it's time to ketchup play Catch Up.

Bio Domes

When I shot this earlier today it just a silly experiment, but now it's looking like it's my post for the day. Lots going on tonight and I don't think I'll get a chance to shoot any more.

May 6th - Can You Hear Me Major Tom?

Major Tom

I have this light bulb, a mini-spot I think it is, with different kind of electrical connections (a "g" something or other I think) - it's been sitting on my desk and I've always thought it looks like the old Gemini spacecraft. Out of time and ideas tonight, I thought I'd shoot it. One strobe directly overhead thru DIY Grid Spot. I used photoshop to clone out the thread that suspended it.

May 4th - A Night at the Museum Market

A Night at the Market

Ever wonder what the store looks like after the doors are closed and the lights turned off? Well, the lights come back on and then the night crew comes in and the aisles look like this. When I did this post in February, it was not fiction, and now I've had to take on a couple of part time jobs to make ends meet. (and I'm hoping they meet soon). Anyway, I knew I would be tired tonight, so I took my camera in and shot this at breaktime. Good thing too, because I'm too tired to shoot anything else!

May 3rd - The Tulip Barn

The Tulip Barn

After living in this area for nearly 40 years, I finally went to see the tulips. Oh I've seen them before many times but never at less than 50 M.P.H. Today I went and did the tourist thing, actually walking thru the fields I and shot 55 photos in about 25 minutes. As I was leaving, I noticed the barn across the field of tulips and shot a 56th. It turned out to be my favorite.

May 2nd - Speaking of Vinyl...

Speaking of Vinyl...

Our theme this week is "Co-Workers". I picked the theme, and I had something in mind to photograph a co-worker the other day, but things got really busy and we never had time so it didn't happen.

Then this morning, another co-worker of mine stopped by the house and dropped off this USB turntable for playing old vinyl records and recording tunes into a computer. So I've been playing with this for a while tonight, and just realized - here's my "Co-Worker" photo for the week.

And the title is referring to Lance's post from Wednesday.

May 1st - The Dinghy Float

The Dinghy Float

I almost shot another photo of my 747, this time pointing straight down or flying inverted or something, in honor of "Mayday"... (you know: "Mayday! - Mayday! We're going down!"), but I thought maybe 2 was enough already, so instead it's a nice peaceful scene from our quaint little seaside village. This is a nighttime view of the dinghy float at the Port of Friday Harbor Marina.
