It's a wild and stormy night. I was supposed to catch a ferry to go to work in Seattle tomorrow morning, but they cancelled one run already and I don't want to get turned back in the middle of the night, so I'll leave in the morning. I was going to shoot something on the ferry for today's post, but since I'm home, I've shot several things here instead... a bowl of oranges, a box of wood screws and I finally settled on my pride and joy... my Fender Strat.
The light is gorgeous - how'd you do it?
ReplyDeleteWell I had my strobes (OK, your strobe and dad's strobe) packed away and ready to go to work tomorrow, so I got out my CFL's in a soft box right over the guitar which was laying flat on the table on my black polar fleece vest (for black background). Camera was about 14" from the guitar, zoomed way in with the lens on Macro. 1/400th at f/4.2. Lens at 50mm zoom.
ReplyDeleteSoftbox huh? Can you use it with your strobes too?
ReplyDeleteYeah this thing. I guess it's not a "softbox" per se, but this is what I used. And yes I made some modifications to it (as shown here) so that I can blast a strobe through it. I want to get one like yours though.
ReplyDeleteTim,
ReplyDeleteyes this is an awesome shot. Nice make shift softbox. Do you have a then white sheet on the front side of that?

and I cropped the image a lot as well, at least half the shot is cropped.
ReplyDeleteTim, glad you joined us :) Eric wants us to get together and shoot self portrait stuff. We just need to find time. Sounds like your dad has an interest as well.
Eric is my hero and if you are half as good as him (and I love your guitar shot) then you are in great shape. I have not looked at your exif metadata but I assume you are shooting Cannon?
Hi Lance! Thanks for the nice words and the invitation. I'd love to get together sometime - that sounds like fun. I'm shooting a Nikon D50 actually. And the "softbox" is a round metal light fixture with 3 color balanced CFL's in it. I'll post a picture of it when I get home in a couple days.
ReplyDeleteAs promised, here are some shots of my softbox.
