March 30th - "Warm" Light

Warm LightWhat is it that is so pleasing about warm light in our homes? Why do we not have fluorescents? I can see why not bright fluorescents, but what if they were turned down and not quite so bright as at the office? I still don't think they would be as comfortable as a warm light by the bedside like this. But what is it about the color of light that makes it warm and pleasing or the color of other lights that makes them cold and harsh?

  1. How about this: put in a CFL and wrap it in a full CTO gel...

  2. Perhaps it's that warm lights remind our inner cavemen of the "home fires". With the demise of actual coal fires, it's the next best thing. We used to have a bunch of candles in our fireplace at home. When they were lit, it was really cosy and warm despite no real heat being generated. It's ancesteral memory.

  3. I like @hotter than... comment - nothing replaces the glow and comfort of warm light, whether it be from natural or manufactured sources!

  4. It does feel warm, but these older eyes need that bright, clear white light by my bed in order to read. Halogen for the eyes, warm light for the mood.
